Bangladesh in dilemma to announce team for Pakistan tour

As Pakistan is yet to agree with Bangladesh’s proposal for a split series, the national selectors are in dilemma to announce the team.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has recently informed their Pakistan counterpart that they would play the three-match T20 series in Pakistan soil but requested them to arrange the two-match Test series in neutral venue. However Pakistan is yet to reply.

The tourists are scheduled to visit Pakistan in January- February for the bilateral series comprising two-match Test and three-match Twenty 20 series.

The T20 series will be held in the last week of January and Bangladesh plans to reach Pakistan on January 21 if their proposal gets nod from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Minhajul Abedin Nannu, the chief selector said they would keep the team ready regardless of the outcome.

“We won’t be able to make the plans properly until BPL reaches its halfway, then we will think about it,” Nannu said here today.

“We have to take our own preparations. As we have some time, we can prepare a team,” he added.

Nannu said that he is happy to see players getting confidence under their belt by scoring runs in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL).

“Batsmen are making runs. This is good for the audience and the players are also getting more confidence. But the disappointments are there for the bowlers. Wickets will usually be different in different venues. Players face different challenges in different pitches. If they struggle in Dhaka, then they are playing comfortably in Chattogram. And they might feel difficulty when they will be playing in Sylhet. If we have different wickets in different venues, it will be beneficial for us.”

While some young players like Mehedi Hasan Rana, Mukidul Islam Mugdho and others are playing exceedingly well in the tournament, Nannu indicated that they are not in a hurry to give chances to young cricketers as they are ready to wait and groom them properly.

“l feel that it is not right to judge a player just by seeing him perform in one or two games,” he said.

“We have to consider many things. Representing a country and playing against a team, is something different. Many players performing at high quality at domestic level but they are not able to perform in international level,” he added.

“So we have to consider many things before preparing a squad. We are definitely considering the young players. Most importantly, many HP players played really well. We are able to see the players [performing] that we have nurtured at HP level, this is positive side,” he said adding that the youngster need to have big goals so that they can serve the national team for a long period of time.

“Any young players will have to set his mind to play standard cricket for 15 years. It is not possible to understand the level of a player with one or two matches.”
