Grand Master Ziaur Rahman Zia still takes solo lead in Rating Chess

GM Ziaur Rahman Zia of SAIF Sporting Club still maintained his solo lead in the points table with 7.5 points after the eighth round games of International rating Chess tournament now being held at Bangladesh Chess Federation Hall-Room.

Three players are sharing second position with 6.5 points. They are IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin and CM Sharif Hossain of Bangladesh Navy and Tahsin Tajwar Zia of Golden Sporting Club.

Four players are sharing the third position with 6 points. They are FM Mehdi Hasan Parag of Golden Sporting Club, CM S M Sharon of Bangladesh Navy, Md Sariatullah of Esoft Arena and Abdul Momin of Bangladesh Police.

In the day’s eighth round games– GM Zia beat Md Abzid Rahman, CM Sharif split point with Tahsin, IM Minhaz beat FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman, FM Parag beat Jabed Al Azad, CM Sharon defeated Monjur Alam, Sariat outclassed Zoar Haque Prodhan and Momin beat Swarnavo Choudhury.

The last round games started this evening and all games were on when the last report came in hand.

Meanwhile, the prize distribution and closing ceremony of the tournament will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at 11:30 am at the same venue.

FM Iqbal Bin Anwar (Dawn), executive director and head of games of Sports of Walton Group, will present in the ceremony as the chief guest while Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) vice-president Gazi Shayiful Tarique will be there as special guest.

BCF acting general secretary KM Shahidullah will preside over the closing ceremony.
