DPE transform education monitoring into a paperless system in Dhaka

Department of Primary Education (DPE) and Save the Children jointly organized a refresher on e-monitoring on May 14, 2018, where Dr. Md. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal NDC, Additional Secretary and Director General of DPE was present as Chief Guest. Mr.  Bijoy Bushan Paul, Joint Secretary and Director of Monitoring and Evaluation and Md. Badiar Rahman, Joint Secretary, and System Manager were present as special guests. Hosneara Khondker, Program Director, Shishuder Jonno Program of Save the Children presided over the meeting.

“Education monitoring in 12 Thana of Dhaka Metropolitan Area will be paperless from today. Thanks for the support extended by Save the Children. Department of Primary Education is going to scale up e-monitoring system gradually throughout the country by July this year” – said Dr. Md Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal while inaugurating refresher’s training. In addition to the declaration of the paperless school monitoring system, the DG, DPE formally launched the e-primary facebook group on an e-primary school system that was evolved by the users for real-time communication.

Initially in 2015, Save the Children, Grameen Phone and DPE piloted e-monitoring system in 5 Upazila and later it was extended to 40 Upazilas in 2017. In 2018, DPE has been able to extend the training opportunity in another 40 Upazillas.  E-Monitoring school system is successful in creating a change in the government school monitoring system. The introduced digital school monitoring system is not simply a piece of technology that enables access to data. DPE plans to distribute a total of 3729 tabs among primary education officials in June 2018 and brings whole Bangladesh under e-monitoring system by July 31, 2018.
