Training of trainers on Rio Conventions by UNDP Bangladesh

The three day Training of Trainers (TOT) on Rio Conventions kicked off on 17th April at the Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy (BCSAA) at Shahbag, Dhaka, jointly organized by the Rio Conventions project of UNDP and the Department of Environment (DoE), Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).

This was the third ToT, which focused on obligations, implementation and national responses of the Rio Conventions: United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest Mr. Raisul Alam Mondal, Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (MoFL). The inaugural session was chaired by Md. Anwarul Islam Sikder ndc, Secretary to the Government and Rector, BCSAA and attended by the special guests Dr. Sultan Ahmed, Director General, DoE, Arif M. Faisal, Programme Specialist (Environmental Sustainability and Energy), UNDP, Dr. Pear Mohammad, Joint Secretary and Director (Information Technology), BCSAA Md. Ziaul Haque, Director, DoE and NPD, Rio Convention Project.

In his speech, the chief guest Mr. Raisul Alam Mondal underpinned the importance of the TOT programme. He said, “ This training is unique by its nature as this is a training of trainers. After successful completion of the training, the participants will be the Master Trainers on Rio Conventions”.

Remarking on the recent graduation of the country status, Mr. Anwarul Islam Sikder ndc, mentioned that mainstreaming of the obligations Rio Conventions in Bangladesh was must because without a proper environmental management system, Bangladesh couldn’t achieve the sustainably.

A total of 16 government officials from Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Land, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council, Land Appeal Board, Department of Agricultural Extension, Department of Environment and Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy participated in the training, which ended on 19 April.
