5.2-magnitude earthquake hit India’s northeastern state of Assam

The earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale occurred at 6:44 a.m. local time. The epicenter of the earthquake was Kokrajhar, west of Dispur, the capital city of Assam.

A moderate earthquake Saturday morning hit India’s northeastern state of Assam, officials said.

According to Indian Meteorological Department, the earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale occurred at 6:44 a.m. local time. The epicenter of the earthquake was Kokrajhar, west of Dispur, the capital city of Assam, reports BSS.

“The epicenter of the earthquake was located at 26.3 degrees north latitude and 89.8 degrees east longitude,” according to Indian Meteorological Department. “The depth of the earthquake was 10 km.”

Officials said tremors of the earthquake were felt across the state. However, there were no immediate reports of any damage or loss of lives in the earthquake.
