Bangladesh Govt prepares to set guidelines for Uber, Pathao

News Hour:

The ride-hailing services would have to enlist with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority or BRTA to receive ‘ride-sharing motor enlistment certificates’, says a draft guideline prepared by the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.

These companies will have to operate as either private or public companies with Taxpayers’ Identification Number or TIN, and abide by all set conditions.

The draft rules say these companies should have at least 200 vehicles operating for them. Their pools can have motorcars, jeeps, microbuses, auto-rickshaws, ambulances and motorcycles that are privately owned and not available for hire.

The authorities will decide service areas for these companies after assessing the size of their motor pools, road network capacity and passenger demand besides their service skills.

The draft will be sent to the cabinet once it is approved by the road transport minister, said Md Abdul Malek, additional secretary to the Roads and Highways Department.
