Former Indian minister Shashi Tharoor hails Mashrafe as philosopher captain

News Hour:

Shashi Tharoor, former Indian state minister and author, has termed Bangladesh cricket captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza a philosopher captain.

A brilliantly sane perspective on cricket from Bangladesh’s philosopher-captain Mashrafe Mortaza. Applaud the real heroes, enjoy the game,” he tweeted on Sunday, posting a photo of Mashrafe inscribing his comments.

“The labourers are the stars, they build the country. What have we built using cricket? Does Paddy grow on the cricket field? Those who make courtyards using bricks, make things at factories, grow crops in the fields – they are the stars” – are some of the recent comments of Mashrafe who is a popular captain in Bangladesh.

Tharoor is a Congress party MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He is also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs. He was earlier a state minister for external affairs and human resource development when his party was in power.

Tharoor is also an acclaimed writer, a globally recognised speaker on India’s economics and politics, human rights, culture and international affairs.
