Praava Health announces its molecular cancer diagnostics (PCR) lab

Praava Health is launching its first outpatient health center in Dhaka this summer, featuring family doctors and diagnostics. Its state of the art lab will feature Bangladesh’s first molecular cancer diagnostics (PCR) lab, which is being set up under the leadership of Dr. Zaheed Husain.

Today at Four Seasons Restaurant in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Praava Health’s inaugural Continuing Medical Education (CME) event featured Dr. Zaheed Husain, Praava Health’s Senior Director, Cancer Diagnostics, spoke about “Molecular Cancer Diagnostics, Cancer Prevention, & the Moonshot Program.” Dr. Husain is also the head of the Laboratory of Immunobiology in the Division of Interdisciplinary Medicine and Biotechnology, Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Hospital, in Boston, MA, USA. He is also an instructor with the Department of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Husain earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from New York University.

“Cancer is still a dreaded disease claiming millions of lives worldwide,” said Dr. Husain. “But for the first time ever, there is hope for patients who were feeling hopelessness and despair. New technologies are paving the way for better management and treatment of cancers. Immunotherapy and molecular cancer diagnostics are leading the way.”

Cancer is the sixth leading cause of death in Bangladesh, and the cancer-related death rate in Bangladesh is expected to increase from 7.5% in 2005 to 13% by 2030. There are an estimated 1.5 million cancer patients in Bangladesh, and approximately 200,000 newly diagnosed patients every year.
