Tonic Let’s Move Bangladesh! is gaining considerable momentum

News Hour:

Tonic Let’s Move Bangladesh! challenge the first of its kind initiative by a health service provider in the country, is gaining considerable momentum in its early stages. Taking place over the course of November, the Let’s Move Bangladesh Facebook challenge launched with the mission to actively encourage Bangladeshis to embrace physical movement on a daily basis for a healthier, happier life.

To accept the challenge online, people from all corners of Bangladesh need to make a personal pledge to lead a healthier life. An example would be making a promise on Facebook to walk to school or office every day instead of taking the rickshaw. This pledge has to be followed up with a public post of a photo or video of participants in action with the hashtag #LetsMoveBD.

Participants are also encouraged to tag their friends and pass the challenge on to others. As the month continues, those who have taken pledges need to follow up each day with a Facebook post that shows them keeping their promises. By the end of November, participants will be able to win exciting prizes based on their performance and their attempts to motivate others.

Till now – over a million Facebook users viewed the various contents related to the challenge, such as a motivational video by Taskin, out of whom a surprising ninety nine thousand users actively engaged with those contents through likes and shares. This poses an exciting prospect for Tonic, since it showcases that people are responding positively to the challenge and Tonic is finding success in being able to harness the power of social media to build a community driven to health and wellbeing.

Tonic is also leveraging its digital services to support participants throughout the challenge. Tonic Jibon is providing regularly updated content with essential information online as tips on common topics like easy ways to get active.

Additionally, Tonic Daktar is offering first-hand expert advice to participants, who can gain information on critical topics like what exercises are approved for blood pressure patients. Finally through Tonic Discounts, participants can gear up with goods, like cycles and running shoes, which complement an active lifestyle.

“The motivations behind Tonic Let’s Move Bangladesh! campaign is highly admirable. By adopting a physically active lifestyle, a person can dramatically reduce vulnerability to chronic diseases like heart attacks and diabetes. Our future generations especially need help to overcome bad lifestyle habits like consuming too much fast-food, and not enough physical activity daily.  Telenor Health is taking bold steps not only to raise awareness but also provide access quality healthcare by harnessing the power of digital,” said National Professor Brig. (Rtd) Abdul Malik, Founder and President of National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh and advisory panel member of Telenor Health.

Telenor Health is the new venture from Telenor Group that leverages technology to improve access to healthcare in emerging markets. Tonic is Telenor Health’s first step in addressing health needs of Bangladeshis. With support from Grameenphone, Telenor Health is able to extend Tonic’s services to all active GP customers free of charge.
